BK406b This
is a very nice, larger set of Amethyst Crystal Bookends. The set measures
10 1/2" x 8 1/2" x 4 1/2" and has not been polished. These bookends are
part of a larger Amethyst Geode that has a deep Purple color and very cool sparkly
highlights. Absolutely amazing! Amethyst is a purple variety
of Quartz often used as an ornament. Upon exposure to heat, Amethyst generally
becomes yellow, which some refer to as Citrine or "burnt" Amethyst. It
occurs in color from a light, slightly pinkish violet to a deep grape purple.
It is widely distributed as an ornamental stone, but fine, clear specimens that

This is a pretty medium size set of colored Fuchsia (color enhanced) Brazilian
Agate Geode bookends. They measure 8" x 4 1/2" x 3 1/2" with a nice polished
face.
Agates mostly occur as nodules in volcanic rocks or waters containing
silica in solution possibly derived from the decomposition of silicates in the
lava. The siliceous matter is deposited in regular layers resulting in
the banded or striped formation.

Petrified Wood
Bookends
|
BK407c
This is a smaller, but very pretty set of Sequoia Petrified Wood bookends from
Saddle Mountain, Washington. This set of bookends shows the growth lines in the
wood very well and has a great polish. They are polished on one side with
black felt in the middle and bottom for protection. The set measures 4
1/2"
tall and 7 1/4" wide and 1 3/4" thick. A nice gift that was once
a living tree. Petrified Wood is a type
of a fossil as it consists of fossil wood where all the organic materials
have been replaced with minerals while retaining the original structure of
the wood. These minerals are most often Silicates such as Quartz. Other
minerals, Manganese, Iron and Copper, in the water or mud during the
petrification process gives Petrified Wood a variety of color ranges: black
- Carbon; green/blue - Copper; red/brown/yellow - Iron. Petrified Wood can
preserve the original structure of the wood in all its detail all the way
down to the microscopic level. Structures such as tree rings and the
various tissues are often observed features. Although Petrified Wood can be
found worldwide, it is rather rare in larger quantities and at times can be
difficult to obtain by the average collector.
The set weighs 3 lbs. 10 ozs.

Dugway Geode Bookends
|
BK408c
This is a smaller, above average quality, set of Dugway Geode bookends.
The set has a very good color mix and nice polish on one side with grey felt
in the middle and bottom. They measure 6 1/2" x 5 1/4" x 3" with the Geode
cavity measuring approximately 4" high on each side. A super set that would
make a super gift!! Geodes are geological rock formations which occur
in sedimentary and certain volcanic rocks. They are essentially rock cavities
or vugs with internal Crystal formations or concentric banding. The exterior
is generally Limestone while the interior contains Quartz Crystals and/or Chalcedony
deposits. If the Geode is completely filled with Crystal, being solid
all the way through, it is then called a nodule.
The set weighs 3 lbs. 14 ozs.
