in the lava. The siliceous matter is deposited in regular layers resulting

larger set of Black Orthoceras Fossil bookends from Morocco. This set measures
6 1/4" x 8" x 2". These have been chipped and polished to expose the fossils
on the front and the fossil areas polished. They are also polished in
the center, top and side areas and have an interesting dotted design on the
front face.
Orthoceras was a marine cephalopod, this particular species was straight
shelled and they thrived some 400+ million years ago in the Paleozoic era.
It was a slender, elongated shell fossil that is related to the mollusk and
cephalopod families and is found world wide.
