Unakite is an altered Granite composed of pink Feldspar, green Epidote and clear Quartz. It exists in various shades of green and pink and is usually mottled in appearance. Good quality Unakite is considered a semiprecious stone and will take a good polish and is often used in jewelry and other lapidary work such as eggs, spheres and carvings.

Rose Quartz is a type of Quartz which exhibits a pale pink to rose red hue.  The color is usually considered as due to trace amounts of Titanium, Iron or Manganese, in the massive material.  Some Rose Quartz contains microscopic Rutile needles which produce an asterism in transmitted light.

Serpentine is a group of common rock forming hydrous Magnesium Iron Silicate minerals. It can contain minor amounts of Chromium, Manganese, Cobalt or Nickel. Serpentine may refer to over 20 different varieties that belong to the Serpentine group and the most common are Antigorite, Chrysotile and Lizardite. The color is often green and may have a mottled or scaly appearance.

Aventurine is a form of Quartz that is characterized by its translucent and mineral inclusions that give it a shimmering or glistening effect called "aventurescence".  The most common color is green but it may also be orange, brown, yellow, blue or grey.

Jasper, or spotted stone, is an opaque, impure variety of Quartz that is usually red, yellow or brown in color.  Picture Jaspers simultaneously exhibit several variants such as banding, flow patterns, dendrites or color variations.  This results in what appears to be scenes or images in a cut section of the Jasper.

The most common form of Goldstone give the illusion of being a reddish-brown, although in fact the color comes from the Copper crystals and the glass itself is colorless. Other variants have an intensely color matrix usually blue or violet, and more rare, green.

Onyx is a banded variety of Calcite. The colors of its bands range from white to almost every color except shades of purple, blue and black. It is used for vases, bowls, beads, cabochons and other items. This type is found in Mexico and Pakistan and is often carved and polished into various items. This material is much more readily available and softer than the gemstone commonly called Black Onyx which is a silica gem.

Agates mostly occur as nodules in volcanic rocks or waters containing Silica in solution which is possibly derived from the decomposition of Silicates in the lava.  The Siliceous matter is deposited in regular layers resulting in the banded or striped formation.  It is very unlikely that you would ever find an exact duplicate of any type of Agate, Fairburn or other.

C117B This is a nice carving of a Turtle made from Fancy Jasper.  It measures 2" x 1"and has a nice polish with a really color combination of green, purple, and a pinkish color.

Granite is a common and widely occurring type of intrusive igneous rock. Granites are usually medium to coarse grained, occasionally with some individual Crystals. It can be pink to dark gray or even black depending on the chemistry and mineralogy. It is a hard and tough substance is used mostly in construction and landscaping.

C107B  This is a nice carving of a turtle carved out of Jade.  It measures nearly 1 1/3" x 1 1/2"and has a nice polish. It would make a great gift.

Jade, or Jadeite, is a Silicate mineral made from a Sodium and Aluminum mix that is usually found in igneous and/or metamorphic rocks. Jade is as hard as Quartz, is exceptionally tough, beautifully colored and can be delicately shaped or carved.

C114b   Here is a neat set of 4 mini gemstone Dinosaur carvings.  Each set has a Stegosaurus, a Tyrannosaurus Rex, a Triceratops and a Brontosaurus. They are carved from Sodalite, Green Aventurine, Fancy Red Jasper, Blue Gold Stone, Opalite, Quartz Crystal, Hematite, Rose Quartz, Gold Tiger-Eye or Brown Gold Stone.  Each carving measures approximately 3/4" to 1" depending on the type of carving.  These little guys are super cute and very detailed.
