CL100C  This is nice crushed Orange Calcite in sizes from 3/4" to 1 1/2" in a 5 pound bag quantity.  This is a good tumbling rock and has good design and "sparkly" color. It tumbles well. Use for jewelry or just as is for fountains or other decorative uses.

Note:  This is softer material than most other crushed rock we have available.  It's tricky to tumble and polish and not best suited for beginners or click on the link for special instructions for softer material.  We suggest running this rock alone and start with the 120-220 Silicon Carbide Grit

Calcite is a Carbonate mineral that is most widely distributed on the Earth's surface.  It is a common constituent of sedimentary rocks with Limestone in particular.  A Calcite formation can take on many different shapes and sizes which is dependent on the location, ground water occurrence and temperature.  Calcite is usually white or colorless but can be gray, red, yellow, green, blue, violet, brown or black.  The deeper the color is usually indicative of the definitive impurities from the earth or water.

Onyx is a banded variety of Calcite.  The colors of its bands range from white to almost every color except shades of purple, blue and black.  It is used for vases, bowls, beads, cabochons and other items.  This type is found in Mexico and Pakistan and is often carved and polished into various items.  This material is much more readily available and softer than the gemstone commonly called Black Onyx which is a silica gem.

Selenite is a Crystalline variety of Gypsum.  It is often transparent and colorless.  If the Selenite Crystals show translucency, opacity and/or color, it is caused by the presence of other minerals and may be "druzy".  Selenite often appears to have a "cat's eye" appearance especially with the polished variety.  It will often magnify images when the translucency is very clear.

Marble is a metamorphic rock consisting of Limestone but composed mostly of Calcite.  It is used extensively for sculpture, building materials and has many decorative uses.  The pure white Marble is probably the most common form known, but the characteristic swirls and veins of many colored Marble varieties are usually due to various mineral impurities such as Clay, Silt, Sand, Iron Oxides or Chert.

Silicon carbide, also known as carborundum, is a compound of silicon and carbon and occurs naturally as ultra rare moissanite. Silicon carbide powder has been mass-produced since 1893 for use as an abrasive. Grains of silicon carbide can be bonded together by sintering to form very hard ceramics widely used in applications requiring high endurance, like as car brakes or ceramic plates in bulletproof vests. Electronic applications of silicon carbide as light emitting diodes and detectors began over 100 years ago and continue today are widely used in high-temperature/high-voltage semiconductor electronics. Large single crystals of silicon carbide can be grown by the Lely method; they can be cut into gems known as "synthetic moissanite".
