Here is an interesting find!! This is a very nice Birds Eye Rhyolite
heart. It measures 3 3/4" x 3 1/2" x 1 1/4" and has been hand polished,
therefore close observation would reveal some smaller flatten areas.
This material has a softer composition so it will not hold a shiny, polished
finish. A good catch for the heart collector.

Rhyolite is an igneous, volcanic rock that is composed of Felsic, or
Silicate minerals such as Silica, Aluminum, Sodium and Potassium.
The material is similar to that of Granite, Pumice and Obsidian but due
to the cooling process when formed, Rhyolite did not form any crystals,
thus changing the texture of the material.

Here is something different from the gift department at the Rock Shed.
This is a very nice, hand crafted small Heart Soapstone Box with inlaid
Abalone shell design. It measures over 3" x 2 1/2" x 1 1/4" and
has a smooth finish. The box has a removable lid with an intricate
hand carved floral design on each side. The inlay Abalone shell
design has a pretty Pink and Blue floral pattern. A perfect gift

Soapstone, also known as steatite or "soap rock", is a metamorphic
rock type of a Talc-schist. It is largely composed of the mineral
Talc and is rich in magnesium. It has been a well known carving
media for thousands of years. It is a relatively soft substance
and may feel soapy to the touch, thus the name Soapstone. It is
chemically stable and resistant to acid. Soapstone is often used
in carvings, inlaid design, sculpture, coasters, and kitchen countertops
and sinks.

in anorthosite and shows an iridescence or "play of colors." Gemstone
varieties of Labradorite exhibiting a high degree of iridescence are Spectrolite,

This is a pretty, above average quality, gemstone heart carved from
Sodalite. It measures 1 3/4" x 1 3/4"x 3/8" and has a nice
polish. The heart has a deep Blue color with White, Black, Beige
and may have some sparkly Pyrite accents. Similar to like item.
Sodalite is a rich royal blue mineral enjoyed as an ornamental stone.
Although massive samples are opaque, Crystals are usually transparent
to translucent. It is very similar to Lapis but with out the Pyrite
Crystals and distinguishable color differences. It makes great jewelry,
cabochons an beads.

This is a very nice, above average Ocean Jasper heart from Madagascar.
It measures 1 3/4" x 1 7/8" x 1" and has a nice polish. The heart
has a deep Green color with White accents.

This material is a new find from Madagascar. The deposit formed as
a rhyolite flow but has been completely silicified. The Rhyolitic eyes
or orbs come in an astonishing array of colors and color combinations.
The back ground can be white, pink, green, red, or yellow. Botryoidal
formations as well as white and deep green druzy are also common. This
deposit has been discovered at the edge of the ocean. It can only be seen
and collected at low tide. The area has no road so the material must be
transported to civilization by boat. This material is fast becoming
a rarity in the Jasper ocean fields, so get one while it is still available.

This is a pretty gemstone heart carved from Amazonite. It measures
2 1/4" x 2 1/8" x 1 1/8" and has a nice polish. The heart has a
light Turquoise color with tiny White sparkly accents. A true beauty.

Amazonite is a green variety of Feldspar. The name is taken
from that of the Amazon River, from which certain green stones were formerly
obtained, but it is doubtful whether green Feldspar occurs in the Amazon
area. It is a mineral of limited occurrence but is often associated
with smoky Quartz, Orthoclase and Albite in a coarse Granite or Pegmatite.
Because of its bright green color when polished, Amazonite is sometimes
cut and used as a gemstone, although it is easily fractured.

2 1/8" x 2"x 1" and has a soft almost fiber optic effect. The heart
has been hand polished and may reveal some small divots and flattened
areas which is quite common of this type of material. It is a very beautiful
Heart.
There is only one (1) available.
Selenite, also known as Satin Spar, Desert Rose and Gypsum Flower,
are the four Crystalline varieties of Gypsum. It is a very soft
material composed of Calcium Sulfate. Selenite is often transparent
and colorless. If color is present it is often due to impurities
or presence of other minerals.

This is a pretty gemstone Heart carved from light Pink Rose Quartz.
It measures 1 3/4" x 1 3/4"x 3/8" and has a nice polish. A very

Rose Quartz is a type of Quartz which exhibits a pale pink to rose
red hue. The color is usually considered as due to trace amounts
of Titanium, Iron or Manganese, in the massive material. Some Rose
Quartz contains microscopic Rutile needles which produce an asterism in
transmitted light.

This is a beautiful and very unique heart carved from Picasso Marble.
It measures 3" x 2 3/4" x 1 1/2" and has a good polish. This
large heart would make a super gift or dress up any heart collection.
Marble is a metamorphic rock consisting of Limestone but composed mostly
of Calcite. It is used extensively for sculpture, building materials
and has many decorative uses. The pure white Marble is probably
the most common form known, but the characteristic swirls and veins of
many colored Marble varieties are usually due to various mineral impurities
such as Clay, Silt, Sand, Iron Oxides or Chert.
