Here is an above average quality Dog Tooth Calcite specimen. It measures
5 3/4" x 3 1/4" x 2 1/4" and has a natural sparkly appearance. This
beauty has an unique Reddish-Brown color with several intact points setting
in an almost perfect cluster.

Calcite is a Carbonate mineral that is most widely distributed on the Earth's
surface. It is a common constituent of sedimentary rocks with Limestone
in particular. A Calcite formation can take on many different shapes
and sizes which is dependent on the location, ground water occurrence and
temperature. Calcite is usually white or colorless but can be gray,
red, yellow, green, blue, violet, brown or black. The deeper the color
is usually indicative of the definitive impurities from the earth or water.

Here is something different for any collector. Here is a very nice,
very pretty Selenite Crystal from Utah. It measures 5 1/2" x 4" x 1"
and has a natural shiny appearance. A great conversation piece or use
it wire wrap a new piece of jewelry.

Selenite, also known as Satin
Spar, Desert Rose and Gypsum Flower, are the four Crystalline varieties of
Gypsum. It is a very soft material composed of Calcium Sulfate.
Selenite is often transparent and colorless. If color is present it
is often due to impurities or presence of other minerals.

This is a very pretty, above average quality, multi-colored Marble Vase from
Pakistan. This vase measures 3 3/4" x 3 3/4". It is highly polished
all around except for the base. This vase has a very nice, softer Beige
color with Brown and White accents. Marble is a metamorphic rock
consisting of Limestone but mostly composed of Calcite. It is used extensively
for sculpture, building materials and has many decorative uses. The
pure white Marble is probably the most common form known, but the characteristic
swirls and veins of many colored Marble varieties are usually due to various
mineral impurities such as Clay, Silt, Sand, Iron Oxides

This is a great find!! Here is an unusually large, but interesting Lingam
Stone. It measures 9" x 5" and has a smooth surface which does not appear
to have any polish. The Lingam Stones are native to India and the Hindu
religion. This stone came to us with unknown origin. Lingam Stones
have an unique history and are used for Hindu religious ceremonies.

Here is something different from the gift department at the Rock Shed.
This is a very nice, hand crafted Soapstone Box with inlaid Abalone shell
design. It measures 4" x 3" x 1 1/4" and has a smooth finish. The
box has a removable lid with an intricate hand carved floral design on each
side. The inlay Abalone shell design has a pretty Pink and Blue floral
pattern. A perfect gift for that perfect person.

Soapstone,
also known as Steatite or Soaprock, is a metamorphic rock or Talc-Schist.
It is composed of the mineral Talc and is rich in Magnesium and is formed
by the metamorphism of ultramafic protoliths and the metasomatism of siliceous
Dolostones. It is a very soft material and may have a soapy feel when
touched. It can be easily carved into decorative items as well as bowls
or other cooking utensils. It is used by welders and fabricators as
a marker due to its resistance to heat.

Here is something different from Morocco. This is an oblong, very unique
geode, broken in half, which shows an interior of Clear to White Quartz Crystals.
The full Geode measures 9 1/2" x 4 3/4" x3 1/2" with a natural, unpolished
exterior. Although it is difficult to view in the photos, close observation
will reveal very nicely formed Quartz Crystals from the breaking point of
both halves all the way to each end of the Geode. Just marvelous!!
Another photo.
Another photo.
Geodes are geological rock formations which occur in sedimentary and
certain volcanic rocks. They are essentially rock cavities or vugs with
internal Crystal formations or concentric banding. The exterior is generally
Limestone while the interior contains Quartz Crystals and/or Chalcedony deposits.
If the Geode is completely filled with Crystal, being solid all the way through,
it is then called a nodule.

This is a nice, above average Laguna Agate end cut with great color and a
very unique design. It measures 4" x 2 1/4" x 3/4" and has been polished
on the front face. This is a beautiful work of nature and has great
characteristics especially when held in the bright light. This material is
from Mexico. Agates mostly occur as nodules in volcanic rocks or
waters containing Silica in solution which is possibly derived from the decomposition
of Silicates in the lava. The Siliceous matter is deposited in regular
layers resulting in the banded or striped formation. It is very unlikely
that you would ever find an exact duplicate of any type of Agate, Brazilian
or other.

Here
is a great find. This is a Rose Quartz pocket piece from Brazil.
Each piece measures approximately 2 3/4" x 1 7/8" x 3/4" and has been polished
all over. Item is similar to photo. You will receive one (1) pocket
piece. Rose Quartz is a type of Quartz which exhibits a pale pink
to rose red hue. The color is usually considered as due to trace amounts
of Titanium, Iron or Manganese, in the massive material. Some Rose Quartz
contains microscopic Rutile needles which produce an asterism in transmitted
light.

This
is a really rare item. This is a beautiful Dry Head Agate from
Montana. It has excellent banding colors around the neat hollow
crystallized center cavity. The piece measures approximately 4 3/4" x 5
3/4" x 3" and has been polished on the face. Very cool indeed!

Dry Head Agates are
from the Bighorn Canyon area of Montana. The banding colors are usually
bright orange with some white or pink bands on charcoal, light gray,
whitish oranges or greenish matrix. Dry Head Agates are very rare and no longer
available as the mining area is now part of a wild horse refuge. Dry Head Agates may be geologically similar to the Teepee Canyon and Fairburn
Agates of the Black Hills area.

This
is a nice petrified wood limb round section from Madagascar. It has
been cut and polished on one end to show the true beauty of the interior.
It has the look of a real branch on the exterior. A nice addition to
any rock collection, it is a very colorful specimen measuring 2 3/4" x 3 1/2"
x 3". Petrified Wood is a type of a fossil as it consists
of fossil wood where all the organic materials have been replaced with minerals
while retaining the original structure of the wood. These minerals are
most often Silicates such as Quartz. Other minerals, Manganese, Iron
and Copper, in the water or mud during the petrification process give Petrified
Wood a variety of color ranges: black - Carbon; green/blue - Copper; red/brown/yellow
- Iron. Petrified Wood can preserve the original structure of the wood
in all its detail all the way down to the microscopic level. Structures
such as tree rings and the various tissues are often observed features.
Although Petrified Wood can be found worldwide, it is rather rare in larger
quantities and at times can be difficult to obtain by the average collector.
